At the moment the Zen is primarily used within Zurker to buy Zurker vShares. You should only buy Zen if you intend to buy vShares or transfer Zen to another Zurker member. Please note all purchases of Zen are final and non-refundable.

Bitcoin has generated a media storm and it’s certainly innovative. However it has some fundamental flaws. The Zen has been designed to resolve these flaws:-
The process for issuing Bitcoins is complex and extremely wasteful in terms of man hours, computing power and most concerning, electricity. Bitcoin “miners” are issued coins in return for solving increasingly complex problems. The miners set up computing systems to run continuously to find the solutions. This restricts how many Bitcoins are issued each day. This sounds reasonable until you consider the waste involved in this process. This TechCrunch article reports that Bitcoin miners are consuming $150,000 of electricity every day!
Zen are totally environmentally friendly and are issued either in return for programing work on Zen or Zurker API’s or in exchange for traditional currency.
The Bitcoin is not pegged to anything or any other currency and its value is determined by speculative forces and there have been wild fluctuations. By contrast, the Zen is tied to the performance of 22 international currencies which makes it stable by design. Even if one currency collapses or booms, the impact on the Zen will be limited.
Who are the Bitcoin miners? It’s impossible to say, but we do know that some of them are cyber-criminals. The Zen is issued by Zurker which is a democratically managed social network with open-books accounting. If you exchange currency for Zen, you know where it’s going and how it will be spent.
How you can get involved with the Zen
The Zen has only just been launched so the probably the best way to find out more and see how you can get involved is to join Zurker, the social network that issues the Zen. At the moment only Zurker members can buy Zen, soon Zen API’s will be developed that will enable everybody to buy and sell Zen using wallets. Zen wallets will be opened with third-party apps. Wallets will be fully private and independent of Zurker.
Zen can be used to buy vShares at Zurker and during 2013 there will be an aggressive drive to establish a Zen marketplace where all sorts of goods and services will be traded using Zen.
Become a Zen Developer
The Zen will depend on developers to drive the Zen economy, this means that Zurker is committed to supporting developers. This support takes the form of an increasingly sophisticated and powerful Zen API. In addition Zurker will provide financial rewards to developers in Zen or in the form of legal tender raised by Zen sales.
You need a Zurker account to access the ZPI. To see the documentation and to see and use the Zen API, check the API page on Zurker. Once at Zurker, if you have any questions, requirements or feedback about the API, post them to the #API Zone.
There are endless possibilities for Zen apps to grow the Zen economy. Here are just a few examaples of the sort of Zen apps that are likely to be developed:-
- Zen banks – create wallets, move Zen, earn interest
- Zen assessors – check Zen coins for authenticity
- Zen exchangers – sell your Zen in exchange for your local currency
- Zen converters – display any currency amount in Zen
- Zen payments – web widgets so shoppers can pay in Zen
- Zen marketplaces, Zen malls, Zen bazaars – listings of websites that accept Zen
- Zen classifieds – services and products available for Zen

- Zen app listings – showcases of Zen apps
